In From the Cold of the Quad Cities, Inc. is a committee of volunteers from the Quad Cities area whose sole purpose is to raise money on behalf of the member agencies of the Quad Cities Shelter and Transitional Housing organization. Since it's inception in 1991, In From the Cold has worked in an "independent partnership" with the United Way. Recognizing United Way's experience and expertise, In From the Cold requested, and United Way agreed, to assist the committee by creating and coordinating the grant review process, and by assisting in the distribution of all granted moneys.

In 1993, In From the Cold began the Mayor's Hunger Luncheon as a major fund raising. This event is held on a weekday in November offering a simple meal of bread and soup. On that day we ask all attending to "eat simply so that others can simply eat". All the area Mayors have graciously participated by hosting this event and by serving the meals.

In 1994, Phil Collins solicited donations at his concert for In From The Cold. In addition to the $5,000 raised at the concert, Phil Collins contributed an additional $5,000.

Other events have included Dessert concerts, and Quad Cities Chef De Cuisine Society's "Mardi Gras".

Since 1992, In From The Cold has raised more than $270,000 for the Homeless in the Quad Cities.
