2011 Award Recipients:


    Churches United of the QCA – Winnie's Place - $1,500
    Funds will assist homeless women and children with lodging. Winnie's Place provides a safe environment where women can gain skills and emotional growth necessary for successful independence. Since it’s opening, the Shelter has been at or near capacity.

    Churches United of the QCA – Hunger Ministry - $600
    Funds will be used to purchase equipment and food to start up a food pantry in Bettendorf to replace a pantry recently closed in that area. Churches United Hunger Ministry is an essential component meeting nutritional needs of the homeless in our community. They have become the largest provider distributing free food in the Quad Cities area with 25 Food Pantries.

    Community Health Care, Inc. - $2,500
    Funds will assist to help with prescription medication and referral co-pays for homeless patients in the Quad Cities. Community Health Care has the only homeless medical program in the Quad City area targeted to meeting the acute and preventative medical and dental needs of the homeless population.

    Humility of Mary Shelter, Inc. - $2,000
    Funds will assist with the purchase of additional bunk beds so that women staying at the shelter do not have to sleep on mats on the floor. Humility of Mary Shelter is the primary shelter serving single adult men and women in the Quad Cities.

    Vera French Community Mental Health Center - $800
    Funds will assist individuals and families by preventing evictions from residences and from utilities being shut off. Vera French Community Mental Health Center, Homeless Outreach Program conducts outreach and engages residents of Scott County who are homeless and in need of mental health services.

    Project NOW, Inc. - $1,600
    Funds will assist with the purchase of cleaning supplies, towels, bed sheets and personal items for homeless women housed in Project NOW’s Sojourner House Transitional Shelter. This shelter assists homeless, single women with the necessary tools to obtain and remain in permanent housing, achieve self-sufficiency, increase income and financial stability.
